Larry Rodriguez

Obituary of Larry Rodriguez

Born on January 17, 1959 in New York, NY and peacefully passed away surrounded by love and family on September 13, 2018 in Tucson, AZ. Larry was a man of profound wisdom who made friends with all walks of life, humans and animals alike. A Navy Corpsman attached to 13 area branch clinic, 1st medical battalion, 1st FSSG Marine Corps Unit at Camp Pendleton. He was also a beverage manager at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, where he was introduced to country music. His passion for salsa, oldies, afro-Cuban music had him dancing and hitting the congas every chance he had. He was a loving husband, father, tata, brother, tio and friend to many. The numerous stories he told you about his life left you wondering if his humor and gift of gab had no end. An opinionated man that told it like he saw it, a joker but most importantly the strongest supporter you could have on your side. Larry was a man of many passions and talents and could story tell all day and night. One of his favorite hobbies was cooking, not for himself but for everyone to see and taste the Cuban and Puerto Rican roots of which he was so proud of. His other passion was soccer. He was an all CIF champion of Southern California. He coached his son and daughter’s AYSO and club teams for many years. His life was taken away from us too soon, but his love will remain in our hearts forever. He is survived by his wife Elaine, daughter Michelle (Anthony), son Darias (Anika), sisters Denise (Randy), Deborah, grandbabies Eryka, AJ, Tommy and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother Gloria Betancourt-Ploeger and father Gustavo Rodriguez. In lieu of flowers the family would like for all of you to take the time to hug your loved ones and donate to the VA Hospice or the American Cancer Society.
