Charlotte Elsie Thompson Ernstein
Char was born in AlleghenyCounty, Pennsylvania, in 1937 to Walter Leland and Elsie (Dunning) Thompson. She graduated from Lakewood High School (Ohio), received her Bachelors Degree from Michigan State University in 1959, and her Masters Degree from The University of Arizona in 1989. Char met Bob at MSU’s Promenader Square Dance Club and they married in 1957. They had three children; Alan (Julie), Suzanne, and Kenneth (Catt). They moved to Tucson in 1980, where Char was a Teaching Assistant and later taught Scientific Illustration at the University . Locally, Char was an honorary member of the Rotary Club of Tucson; active in square a nd round dancing and clogging; the Tucson African Violet Society; the Pima Painting Club; and a volunteer for more than 25 years with the Arizona Theatre Company. Char’s life was dedicated to service. A friend once said that “she never met a stranger! ” In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Rotary Club of Tucson Foundation or the Alzheimer’s Disease Foundation. A Celebration of Char's life will be held on Saturday, August 10, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel at Angel Valley Funeral Home.
