Obituary of Ricardo Diaz

Ricardo Diaz Valenzuela was born on September 3, 1940, in Santiago Chile and passed away on November 5th, 2021. His parents were Eulogio Diaz Campos and Maria del Rosario Valenzuela. He had one brother, Eulogio, and two sisters, Carmen and Margarita. Ricardo married Paz Arinda DaƱobeitia on September 28, 1966. They had three children, Claudia, Paula, and Daniel. Paula married Cristobal Santa Cruz, and has three sons, Andres, Gabriel, and Diego. Daniel married Rebecca Gutierrez, and has two children, Emma and Daniel.

Our parents decided to come to the United States in pursuit of a better future for the family, especially for the children. We emigrated in 1979 and have lived in Tucson since then. His surviving children both graduated from the University of Arizona. Ricardo worked until retirement at the Arizona Historical Society, where he enjoyed learning about the rich history of southwest Arizona.

He had a unique sense of humor and would often laugh at his own jokes before he finished saying them. He also would eagerly share anything he found interesting that he learned at work. He loved his homeland and everything Chilean, especially the food, wine, and his compadre Adolfo Quiroz. He enjoyed watching soccer and discussing games and the future of the Chilean National soccer team with his grandchildren. He loved his family, especially his grandchildren. He would always wait by the gate and his eyes would light up whenever the family arrived for visits.

We love and miss him very much but know that he is in the presence of the Lord. We are very proud and grateful for what he did for us.
