Obituary of Sherman Smith

Sherman Smith born in Louisville, Kentucky on September 2, 1942, departed this life on June 24, 2022, with his family and loved ones by his side.

He is survived by his loving wife Brenda, daughter Cheryl, sons John, Greg, and Eddy. His 9 Grandsons, Randy, Jamel, Brandon, Jordan, Jayden, Isaiah, Keith, Kody, and Greg. His only granddaughter, Jada and 3 great grandchildren, Shanice, Nevaeh, and KJ. He was the eldest of 12 children; proceeded in death by his father Ural Smith, his mother Melvaline Payne and eight siblings. He is survived by his brother Ronnie and sisters Laverne, Stella, and Phyliss; Brother-in-law Greg and wife Janet.

MSgt Smith served on active duty in the USAF for 28 years. He was a Vietnam Veteran serving 3 tours and earning numerous medals and ribbons throughout his military career. He was a Titan II Missile Facilities Specialist and served on the last active alert before the Titan II was decommissioned at Little Rock AFB, Ark. He was an Armed Forces Courier at Yokota AFB, Japan for six years. Upon his retirement from the USAF, he was a postal mail carrier for 12 years in Tucson.

Sherman loved spending time with his family and friends, traveling, cruising, tailgating at the U of A football games, BBQing at home, listening to oldies, cheering on his favorite Dallas Cowboys, and enjoying his favorite movies and TV shows in his recliner. All his family knew not to sit in his chair!
