Obituary of Linda Lea Akey

In loving memory of our mother, nana, wife, sister, cousin, aunt, and friend Linda (Powe) Akey.  After a long and difficult battle with scleroderma, Linda passed away peacefully at her home in Tucson, Az on November 10, 2022 at the age of 74.

If you ask anyone to best describe Linda, they would say that she was one of the sweetest, most kind, and gentle souls that they have ever known.  She was a selfless person, someone who always put the needs of other before her own. Despite being dealt many challenges throughout her life, Linda was always positive and strong.  She was a true role model on the importance of family, hard work, and doing what was right and kind.

Born in Tucson, Arizona on January 3, 1948 into an airforce family, Linda quickly grew used to moving around; California, Taiwan, Washington, Oregon, and New Jersey just to name a few.  She moved to Nashua, NH in 1970 where she became a mother to her only child Lisa (Akey) Dunning.  Linda’s favorite role in life was when she became a Nana to her two grandchildren; Isabel Dunning (23) and Connor Dunning (19).  Linda often said that her greatest gift was becoming a grandmother. She loved watching them grow.  She most enjoyed fudge making and cookie baking with them, helping them with homework, having breakfast with them, and attending their basketball games; Nana was one of their biggest fans.

She was employed at Southern New Hampshire Medical Center (Memorial Hospital) for 37 years in the payroll/accounting department before retiring in 2014.  She met her best friends of 40 years there; Collette Cathy, and Ann.  She always treasured their dinners out together.

She moved back to her home town of Tucson in 2017 to enjoy time with her family and have the warm Tucson climate to help with her symptoms that did not do well in the cold New England weather.  She so enjoyed her times playing cards and dominoes with her sisters and cousins.  Let’s not forget her favorite past time, sitting on her patio and soaking up the warm Arizona sun.

Linda was predeceased by her mother Isabel Powe and siblings Rafael and Fern.

She leaves behind so many who loved her; her husband Ken of 48 years, a daughter Lisa and son-in-law Roger, two grandchildren; Isabel and Connor, nine siblings; Rachel, Alice, Josie, Bill, Vio, Bobbie, Bonnie (a caretaker for her sister/Mom), Wallie, and Isabelle (Marie).  She also leaves behind many cousins; Teeter and Arlene to name just a couple, many nieces including Christina (another wonderful and loving caretaker to her aunt), many nephews including Henry (who she felt was “so funny” and always made her smile), and many close friends; Judy, Sylvia, and Graham to name a few.

Linda was a true angel on earth.  She will be forever missed and loved by those who were blessed to have her in their lives.

The funeral will be held at Saint Kateri Tekakwitha Mission Parish 507 W. 29th Street Tucson, AZ on January 9th at 10:30am.
