Meilan Hicks

Obituary of Meilan Hicks

Meilan “Charlene” Hicks, was born in Ping Tung Taiwan on August 20, 1943.  She learned to cut hair at an early age, and by the age of 14 was managing a two-chair barber shop on her own.  She moved to Taipei and met the soldier she would later marry.  They married in 1969 and three years later she left her native Taiwan for the United States.

Meilan traveled with her family to many places and came to enjoy seeing new lands in and out of the United States.  She loved the game of Bingo and would find a place to play wherever she went.  When her husband retired from the military and his civil service job, she and her family settled in Arizona, first in Sierra Vista and later in Tucson, where she continued to live the retired life.  She traveled extensively, going on cruises and visiting friends in many different places,  finding places to enjoy her favorite game of Bingo along the way.

Meilan passed away peacefully on the 15th of April after a short illness.   She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Bill, and daughters Maria Kunz of Henderson, Nevada,  Michele Taylor of Scottsdale, Arizona and four grandchildren.  She is predeceased by her father, Wen Yu-Tsao of Hong Kong, and her mother Wen Chung Kuei-Mei of Taiwan.
