Obituary of Sally Joan Sweat

Sally Joan Sweat passed away in Tucson, Arizona on January 9, 2023 at the age of 79.

She was born in Cleveland, Ohio on June 19, 1943 to Wilbur and Joan (Grimes) Patterson.

Sally earned a bachelor’s degree from Ohio Wesleyan University in 1965. She taught math to elementary and middle school students in Illinois, California, and Pennsylvania for 35 years before resettling in Woodland, California, where she worked at the Yolo County Food Bank and the Davis Community Church, as well as in various volunteer activities.

Sally’s passions included music and singing, a sunny day at the beach, and spending time with her family. She lived all over the country (with her beloved cats and dogs) and cherished all the great friends she made along the way.

Sally is survived by her sons Jeffrey (Suzanne Pennington) and Stephen (Sarah Grace) as well as five grandchildren, Sabrina and Sadie Sweat and Isabella, Alexander and Scarlett Sweat-Grace. In addition, she is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, William and Barbara Patterson of Stillwell, Kansas, and her nieces Julie, Beverly and Valerie. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Lara Beth Sweat.

A celebration of Sally’s life will be held in Cleveland, Ohio on a date to be determined. The family suggests donations be made to Yolo County Meals on Wheels at https://www.mowyolo.org
