Obituary of Barbara Joan Dexter

Barbara Joan Dexter, of Tucson, Arizona, passed away on January 28, 2023. Barbara was born May 10, 1940, in Rolla, MO, to George and Goldie Fox. She attended Jefferson City High School. She continued her education at Southwest Missouri State University in Springfield Missouri, graduating with an associate's degree.

She was married on November 2, 1963 to Joseph Dexter at Memorial Baptist Church in Jefferson City and they resided in Kansas City, Missouri until early 90’s. Barb and Joe were married for nearly 60 years. They committed their lives to serving others through their love of Christ. As a result of that love for Christ she nurtured and loved close to 40 children as a foster mother. She also worked in taxes, insurance and financing in her spare time. Her and Joe cultivated many friends while traveling extensively throughout the country after they retired, sold their house and hit the road in their RV. Along the way, they worked for AGS gathering accounts and creating adds for campground flyers and magazines for 15 years. When they retired a second time they settled in Tucson, Arizona in a 55+ resort where they were involved in all the activities provided and made life-long friends. They also were actively involved in pastoring and teaching at their church. Barb was the definition of “A Life Well Lived”. The world is a better place because of Barbara Dexter.

Barbara is survived by four children Richard and wife Renee Dexter, Greg Dexter, Dawn Helman, and Bryan and wife Sherri Haupt. She had 10 beautiful grandchildren Dakota, Miles and Morene Dexter, Logan and Cooper Helman, Nick and wife Loren Haupt, Hanna and husband Lucas Robinson, Bryan Tyler, Hunter and Jackson Haupt. She had 2 great grandchildren Dylan and Austin Haupt.

She was preceded in death by her parents George and Goldie Fox, father and mother-in-law John and Thelma Dexter and brother Ron Fox.

A celebration of life will be held on April 1, 2023 at 1:00 pm, at the Saguaro Heights Community of Christ Church, 1101 S. Melpomene Way, Tucson AZ.

A second celebration of life will be held in Jefferson City, Missouri on Sunday, June 4, 2023 at 2:00 pm, at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, 7804 Heritage Highway, Jefferson City, MO 65109.
