Obituary of Louis Barassi

Louis William Barassi Born on May 12, 1935 in Medford Mass. Died on December 27, 2014 Predeceased by his grandparents: Luigi and Maria Barassi Parents: Frank Barassi and Ida Bucci Barassi And sister: Maria Barassi Pattelena Parents in-law: Paula and Cabot Sedgwick Brother and Sister in-laws: Paulita Sedgwick and Sam Sedgwick Louis was a graduate of Boston College High School ’53, and Boston College ’57. Thereafter he studied at the Sorbonne in Paris and the Comitato linguistico in Perugia, Italy. He returned to Boston in 1958, graduating from Boston College Law in 1961. He was a member of the Massachusetts, New York, and Arizona Bar Associations. In May 1964 Louis came to Tucson with his wife Henrietta. His career as an attorney in Tucson spanned 50 years and he represented a long list of diverse clients. He was a trustee for a Medical Education fund in the Philippines, and most especially he was the attorney for the San Xavier District Council, San Xavier Development Authority, and the Cooperative farm at San Xavier. Louis was a commissioner for Arizona Governor Raul Castro’s Economic Development Commission and he also served as the President of Defenders of Wildlife for many years. He leaves countless wonderful friends who will recall with pleasure his tales of the many unique and lively personages he connected with throughout his life, tales of his childhood and youth, and of the exploits of his remarkable mother Ida. Louis is survived by his wife of 52 years, Henrietta; his sons Luigi, Francis, and Theodore; daughter-in-law Christine Kim; and his beloved grandchildren Sebastian, Francis, Jr., Luigi Paolo, Theodora, and Leo. Louis is also survived by sisters Barbara Chandler, Tina Rosborough and Frances Colella. We are especially grateful to longtime colleagues Greg Lantz and Stella Morales. Dear Louis, we will all miss your vibrant personality and your courageous and loving heart. God Speed.
