Nathan Murtaugh

Obituary of Nathan Murtaugh

Nathaniel Markham Murtaugh September 17, 1983 - February 19, 2015 Son, brother and father, and friend to many. This is our son Nathaniel, taken from us suddenly and unexpectedly. Incredibly too early at age 31. The tomorrows that we will never be able to share with him almost overpower us with a sense of grief and a profound sense of loss. We miss him terribly. He is survived by his son Gabriel Murtaugh, parents Dan and Janine Murtaugh, his twin brother Jacob Murtaugh (Lacie), sister Brandie Murtaugh-Buchanan, Grandma, Julie Murtaugh, nieces Lydia and Mollie and nephew Isaac and a multitude of aunts, uncles, and cousins. Nathan had the most beautiful smile that lit up whatever room he entered. A sense of humor that was second to none and was a fiercely loyal young man. He had a great love of history, especially Roman. He sported a tattoo on his arm of Mark Antony’s 7th Roman Legion! Almost any question regarding Greek, Roman, or early Mesopotamian history, he could readily answer. He loved traveling with his family, all across the country since he was a child and beyond. He also loved music of all genres, but with a special place in his heart for Pink Floyd and the Moody Blues. What he loved most in life was his son Gabriel. His son is what made him happy and gave him purpose in his life. Nathan enjoyed family get-togethers, loved all things University of Arizona, and USC Football. He also loved his adopted state of Missouri where many of his relatives reside. Nate was the type of uncle that all his nieces and nephews clamored around. There was something magnetic about his personality and the little ones, in particular, could sense it. Nathan was a former DOC officer and served honorably and with distinction in the Army National Guard. He was currently working at Parker Consultants at the time of his passing. Nathan was taken from us too soon, only 31. He will forever be loved, in our hearts, and never forgotten. There are simply no words nor time in any given day to adequately express what an outstanding young man our son was or how deeply he is loved and will be missed. There is a huge hole in our family. Nathan was a born again Christian. We will see each other again. But the time between now and then will seem like an eternity. Please join us to celebrate Nathan’s life on March 21st at Agua Calente Park at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to his 6 years old son’s trust fund. The Gabriel Alexander Murtaugh Scholarship Fund. Thank you all for your many prayers and well wishes.
