Obituary of Mary Lundeen

Mary Frances Broderick Lundeen 84, died on May 18, 2015, at her home in Tucson, AZ. Mary was born in East St. Louis, IL, on December 6, 1930. After the Depression, the Broderick family moved to Fargo, ND, where she graduated from Sacred Heart Academy in 1948. She went on to Merryville College and in 1952 earned a bachelor's degree in English from North Dakota Agricultural College. Mary taught English in Fort Morgan, CO, for two years. She then moved to Fergus Falls, MN, where the young teacher met William Frederick Lundeen. They fell in love and married on January 5, 1957, at St. Anthony's Church in Fargo, ND. Mary and Bill were not parted until his death in 1998. The couple raised six children and, in their later years, enjoyed spending time together in Mexico and Tucson. Mary spent her summers at Otter Tail Lake and spent her winters in Tucson. When she was younger, she enjoyed swimming, sailing, weaving and cross-country skiing. Throughout her life Mary enjoyed painting, playing bridge, reading and traveling. Mary was preceded in death by her husband, William Frederick Lundeen; her parents, Ethel G. Chandler and Walter M. Broderick and her sister, Eileen "Mickey" Smith. She is survived by her brother, Walter J. Broderick of St. Louis, MO and her six children, William Gregory Lundeen (Laurie) of Green Valley, AZ, Mark Walter Lundeen of Fergus Falls, MN, Steven Broderick Lundeen (Jennifer Driscoll) of Media, PA, Thomas Simon Lundeen (Nancy) of Clear Lake, IA, Charles Robert Lundeen of St. Paul, MN and Elizabeth Ann (Matt) Walsh of Chicago, IL. She also is survived by five grandchildren, Drake William Lundeen, Aspen Marie Lundeen, William Driscoll Lundeen, Julia Driscoll Lundeen and Samuel Charles Lundeen. A Service for Mary, beloved mother, grandmother and friend, will be held in Tucson at The Tucson Botanical Gardens, Porter Hall, at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 22, 2015.
