With heartfelt sympathies to Ruth and her family. Duane (Corky) was my cousin and I hadn't seen him in many years but I will always remember his infectious smile and laughter. We had many adventures living in the country. He will remain in my heart forever.

Dear Ruth, Kristy, Kim & family,
Cristina & I are sad to hear of Duane's passing. To me personally, he was a gentle giant of a man as was his heart that showed his devotion and love to you Ruth, his daughters Kim and Kristy, his family, and pride a a grandpa. Duane's smile reflected the true nature of a kind and generous person yet the drive of an energetic man who had so many accomplishments in his work, career, and his life. Nothing however was more of a challenge to him than raising his two lovely daughters Kim and Kristy. His patience and love for them proved to be very rewarding to both he and Ruth for having raised two girls who have provided them with the grandchildren they love so much. I'll remember him as a devoted husband to Ruth, a loving father to Kim & Kristy, his family, and proud grandfather to Kaity, Hunter, Braden, and Brooke. Our sincere sympathy and prayers go out to his whole family.
Love,
Frank & Cristina

Love for my Cousin Korky
I don’t remember my cousin Korky ever being home; just coming home. The oldest of the four cousins given to me by Uncle Al and Aunt Mary, Kork was 15 years my senior. He had already sailed half the world before I even realized that in some special way he belonged to me.
I was about 5 years old the first time I saw Kork come home. He was on leave from the Navy, all polished and laughing so much his face flushed pink from all his smiley muscles working overtime. Korky was such a great name for this young man with buzzed blond hair and sparkly blue eyes – another personality to put in my bulging treasure box of cousins. I was a bit disappointed to hear an old aunt call him Duane – his real name – as Duane was too ordinary for this gem. He was a Korky to me!
As more friends and relatives gathered at the homecoming barbeque, it was clear we needed more groceries. Volunteering for the store run and donning his sailor hat to a perfect Popeye tilt, Kork said, “Let’s go, Mo! See if Dave wants to come, too.”
Of course David wanted to come. He was about my age, and Kork was his oldest brother. I was a bit jealous of that, but little Dave was one of my true-blue pals, so I got over it quick. We had to share everything all the time anyway.
The three of us jumped in Aunt Mary’s white VW Bug and headed to downtown Reedville. Two bags full of chips, pop, buns and wieners later, Kork loaded the front trunk of the bug and swung a quick detour right up to the front doors of the 88-Cent Store!
“You two go on in and pick out something special,” Kork said. The smell of popcorn and made-in-Japan plastic tickled our noses as we scrambled through the dime store with Kork at our heels. This was Dave’s town; Dave’s 88-Cent Store. He knew exactly what he wanted and where to find it. He clutched some silly truck or cap gun his own piggy bank could not yet afford and waited patiently while Korky followed my indecision from aisle to aisle. I finally settled on a wonderful, inflatable rabbit about half the size of me. No wait . . . . I like the blow-up skunk . . . no, maybe the rabbit . . . the skunk . . . the rabbit . . . the skunk . . .
Kork bought me both! And he breathed life into those overpriced woodland balloons before we left the parking lot. Dave took the front seat and I snuggled and squeaked between my new friends in the back seat. It was a grand day!
In later years my cousin Korky built his life far from Oregon, but came home many times after my first relative revelation. With each visit he brought us all something special. The very next time I saw him he brought us Ruth, a sassy southern belle that we all loved from the start. Soon he brought Kimberly, and the next time it was Kristy. I added them to my treasure box of cousins, too.
Though I saw you little, Korky – I thought of you often and I loved you much!

Uncle Kork was a favorite in the whole family...He was just as much fun as he was a business man! I spent one young summer with him and Aunt Ruth helping them in their Yogurt shop and eating watermelon in their pool! They knew how to work hard and also enjoy life and see the world from their RV! I only wish we lived closer to see one another more often! I'll always love and miss you Uncle Cork and I'm here for you Aunt Ruth, Kim and Kristie if you need anything.
Love always,
Jenny Spenst.

The eulogy says it all really. Uncle Korky was a great big brother to my Mom and Uncle to me; he was steadfast and comforting to be around, nothing was going to happen to anyone on his watch. My Grandma (his Mom) always glowed when she talked about Korky, she was so very proud of him.
I am so sorry for your loss Aunt Ruthie, Kim, and Kristy. I am sorry I can not be there, but please know my thoughts will be with you all.
Love,
Shawnie (Gloria's Daughter)
