Obituary of Major Ronald Barrett

Maj. Ronald H. Barrett 76 went home to be with the Lord November 11, 2010 after a long and courageous battle with Parkinson's disease. He was preceded in death by his parents Ruth and R. Rudwell, and brother Douglas. Survived by his wife of 54 years Kathie, daughter Diane (Bert) Thomas, son David (Lisa) Barrett of Phoenix, grandchildren Amanda, Allison, Madison and Jack. Brother Robert (Roberta) of Florida, sister-in-law Nora Barrett, nieces/nephews Ruth, Suzanne, Robert, Ronald and Heather. Ron was born in Mt. Vernon, NY, received his EE Degree from the U of Vermont, received his jet pilot training through the USAF Aviation Cadet program and went on to serve in the Vermont Air National Guard, retiring in 1977. He was employed by United Technologies in Ct. where he was actively involved in the electrical design of the Portable Life Support System for the astronauts on the first moon landing. In 1981 Ron brought his family to Tucson where his greatest pleasures were guiding and mentoring his two children, singing in the church choir, traveling in his motorhome and camping with friends. His family wishes to thank Tammy and Russell Burns and the staff at the Mesquite House (AZ Homestead) for the excellent care Ron received these last difficult months. Special thanks also to the staff at Odyssey Hospice. Ron brought laughter, kindness and joy to so many. He will be truly missed. Memorial service to be held 4:00 PM Sunday, November 28, 2010 at Catalina Foothills Church, PCA,2150 E. Orange Grove Rd. In Lieu of flowers donations may be made to Catalina Foothills Church, or to the AZ Chapter America Parkinson Disease Association.
