Obituary of Robert Ramage

Robert Thomas (Tom) Ramage Jr.82, died on December 27, 2010. Tom was born in New Braunfels, Texas on August 15, 1928. He served in the U.S. Army. He earned his Bachelor’s degree from Texas Tech University and his Ph.D. in Agronomy and Plant Genetics from the University of Minnesota. He was employed by USDA and was a longtime professor at the University of Arizona. He developed new varieties of barley that are grown around the world. Beloved husband, father, grandfather, & great grandfather, he is survived by his wife of 58 years; Barbara, sons Bob, Tim (Sandy); daughters Meg Scheuring (John), Lee DeLuca (Larry), five grandchildren and one who went before him and one great grandson. His retirement was an extension of his passion for plant breeding, as he worked on developing chili peppers and cacti in his backyard. He was happiest at his home in Tucson and the hill country of Texas where he grew up. He touched the hearts of many and will be greatly missed. A memorial service for family was held at Our Saviours Lutheran Church with Pastor Marilyn Ascarza officiating.
