Obituary of Wilbur Falkenstine

Wilbur Lawrence “Larry” Falkenstine, born October 8, 1921 in Morgantown, West Virginia, passed away May 5, 2011 in Tucson, Arizona. Larry was a World War II veteran stationed in Europe. Larry met his wife, Madelaine (pre-deceased June 2008) while stationed in Maastricht, Holland. After the end of the war, Larry and Madelaine lived in West Virginia for a short time before returning to Europe so Madelaine could be near her parents. Larry worked for the Battle Monuments Commission at the American Military Cemetery in Margraten, Holland before transferring to Civil Service in Europe. The family lived in Maastricht, Holland, Paris, France, and Bad Nauheim, Kaiserslautern, Munich and Frankfurt Germany before being transferred to Albany Georgia where Larry retired. Larry and Madelaine moved to Tucson in 1994 to be closer to their family. Larry is survived by five children, daughter Cecile McKnight (John Glenn) of Okinawa, sons John Falkenstine, Harvey Falkenstine (DeeAnn, Michael & Garrett), Mark Falkenstine (Denise, Gary, Alan, & Erika) and Patrick Falkenstine of Tucson. Larry leaves behind many nieces and nephews in Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland and Ohio. Larry is also remembered by his brother in law, Jean Jacobs (Mia) of Meerssen, Holland and his little buddy Prince who guarded his easy chair whenever dad was away from it. We have many good memories of living in Europe and visiting our Dutch Grandparents, Uncle & Aunt in Maastricht. We also have many good memories of Mom & Dad being able to participate in our lives while living in Tucson. Dad missed mom very much after she passed away and we are comforted in knowing they are together again. There will be a visitation for family and friends on Wednesday, May 11, 2011 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm with a rosary at 7:00 pm in ANGEL VALLEY FUNERAL HOME and a funeral mass on Thursday morning, May 12, 2011 at 10:00 am in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 601 E Ft. Lowell Road, Tucson, AZ. Interment will follow in Holy Hope Cemetery.
