Obituary of David Sheesley

David Robert Sheesley went home to be with his Lord on Saturday, July 16, 2011 after a short battle with cancer. He was born on the Sheesley family farm in Licking Creek Valley near Mifflintown, Pennsylvania on June 19, 1925. He was the youngest of eight children of parents George and Emma Sheesley. He was a WWII Veteran and served in the Army 1945-47 and served in the occupation of Japan during 1946-47; and received an honorable discharge at Ft. Dix N.J. 1947. His beloved wife Beatrice {Crozier} Sheesley preceded him in death on April 3, 2007. Dave and Bea were high school sweethearts and were married for 59 years. He is survived by the following children Pattie Larsen [Garth], Brenda Schaefer [Greg], Robert Sheesley [Cynthia], Sharon Julian [Chuck], twelve grandchildren, and four great grandchildren. David is also survived by a brother, Lloyd Sheesley [Miriam], a sister, Gladys Barnes, many beloved nieces and nephews, and his special friend Betty. He moved with his wife and three small children to Tucson in 1954 to better his life. His youngest daughter was born here in 1956. He has been a faithful member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church (OSLC) since 1955. At Our Saviour’s he served on the church council, taught Sunday school, served on Boy Scout committees, attended Bible study, and was involved in many building projects. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge for 60 years and currently at Tucson #4. He was a devoted Christian throughout his life. Dave worked at many jobs in his lifetime as a farmer, railroad maintenance, carpenter, bricklayer and 22 years in civil service at DMAFB where he retired in 1985 as a shop foreman. After retirement Dave enjoyed woodworking, traveling in his RV, visiting and playing with the grandchildren, and playing scrabble and other games with friends. Dave will be remembered for his kindness and generosity to others and his great sense of humor.
