Rosemary Maurer

Obituary of Rosemary Maurer

Rosemary passed away peacefully late Thursday, August 5th 2011 after a long battle with illness. She was born on September 25th 1927 to Herman and Alma Fortman in Lincoln, Illinois. Rosemary helped her grandfather George Downey make and sell potato chips during the depression. She worked for a time at the Lincoln and Grand Theaters as a ticket saleswoman while she attended Lincoln High School. Rosemary attended Blackburn College where she worked for her tuition. She met Robert Maurer, who would become her husband of 61 years, at a wedding reception for Walt and Delores Ebel. After having their first son David, they moved in 1951 to Tucson Arizona for health reasons and the prospect of work. She worked for a brief time at Hughes Aircraft in the 50’s and became a lifelong member of Beta Sigma Pi. They had their second son Dana Robert in 1959 and became the family’s homemaker. Rosie volunteered with the Narcolepsy Association, providing awareness at local high schools. She participated in various art classes and was proud of her family connection to the artist Daniel French, who was the sculptor of the Lincoln Memorial, the Minute Man, and other important works. She loved art and also loved to travel. In retirement Bob and Rosie enjoyed golfing and volunteered as golf mentors to the youth. Bob and Rosie traveled across country in various RV’s including twice to Alaska. They celebrated their 25th anniversary in Mazatlan. Rosie was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church from 1951 until her passing. She is survived by her husband Robert William Maurer, sons David Mory and Dana Robert, and grand-children Michael David Maurer and Amy Rose Maurer. She was greatly loved and will be greatly missed. God was gracious to give her to us.
