Mary Steward

Obituary of Mary Steward

Mary Lou Steward was born to Mamie & Johnnie Owen in Las Vegas in 1942. She was the youngest of, we think, at least eight children. At some point the Owen clan moved to central California. Mary Lou graduated from Mount Whitney High School in Visalia. She would often return for reunions, the most recent her 50th. Mary Lou enjoyed working at the Food Bank and spending time at the Community Garden (she desperately tried to cultivate a green thumb over the years). She loved going to church and participating in Hum & Strum gatherings. Her fondest joys were visiting friends and “going riding” with various Christian motorcycle groups. Mary also enjoyed explosives, and capturing rare cats for zoos. To her friends, Mary Lou was known for her sweetness, her compassion, and her love for the Lord. To her children, Mom was whimsical, affectionate, and playful. To her husband, “Mrs. Steward” was a faithful companion, caregiver, and friend. She touched the lives of all who knew her. She always looked for the best in people. Mom would not want those of us who loved her to mourn long over her passing. Her wish would be for us to love and be loved by those around us, and to find joy in the glory of each new day. Mary is survived by, her husband Royal “Stu” and her three children Diane, Steve and Todd.
