Virginia Dougherty

Obituary of Virginia Dougherty

Virginia (Ginny) Dougherty passed quietly in her home surrounded by her family on March 25, 2012. Virginia was born January 8, 1927, in Philadelphia, PA. She and her husband Everett moved to Tucson, Arizona in 1996 to be closer to her grandchildren, Danielle and Kristin and daughter, Barbara (Mulleneaux) and her husband, Carl. In 2005, Virginia’s son, David Dougherty and his bride (Debbie) moved to Tucson. It was Virginia’s greatest pleasure and source of pride to have her family together. Virginia retired from a retail career with Abraham & Strauss (now Macy’s). Her favorite pastime was shopping and she shopped up to her last week. Virginia will always be remembered for her impeccable taste in clothing and home décor. She had an infectious smile, was positive through adversity, and maintained a sense of humor - even as she passed. Virginia is survived by her husband of 62 years, Everett; son, David; daughter, Barbara; granddaughters, Danielle and Kristin; and son-in-law, Carl and daughter-in-law, Debbie. A memorial service and reception to celebrate Virginia’s life will be held on April 4th at 2:00pm at Resurrection Lutheran Church in Oro Valley. The family requests that cheerful colors be worn, and in lieu of flowers a donation to the UA Cancer Center for Research be given.
