Obituary of Joseph Corrigan

Joseph Henry Corrigan, Jr. was the son of Joseph Henry Corrigan, Sr. and Lillian Corrigan. He was the brother of Mildred Corrigan O'Conner. Joseph graduated from the Christian Brother High School in Troy, NY. He excelled in track, baseball, basketball, equestrian events, and fencing. Joseph joined the Navy at 17 where he not only served his country during WWII on the Naval destroyer "Rhode Island", but also obtained the Golden Glove award for boxing. After he completed his service, he attended the LaSalle Institute, Russell Sage College and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute graduating with a Bachelor's degree in Engineering. He went on to obtain three (3) Masters Degrees from Iowa and Maryland Universities in Civil Engineering, Logistics Engineering and Higher Education. Joe started out in Logistics at the Watervliet Arsenal, Watervliet NY. He went on to teach at the Army Management Engineering Training Agency (AMETA) in Rock Island, IL. In 1970 he was approached by Richard Nixon's staff, requesting Joseph to lead a task force aimed at centralizing the nation's social security system in Baltimore, MD. Joseph retired in 1977 with over 35 years of civil and military service. Joseph was very involved in charitable organizations including the Lion's, Rotary, and Elks Lodge. He also obtained the 32nd degree of Masons and was granted a membership in the Shrine. Joseph was a member of the Engineer's Club of Baltimore and AIIE (American Institute of Industrial Engineers). Joseph enjoyed his retirement with his wife Helen by traveling the U.S. and the world, including countries such as Australia, New Zealand and Ireland. Joseph was known for his sense of humor and made friends easily with his warm personality. He raised his children, instilling morale integrity and a joyful perspective on life. He had a talent for raising the spirit with those around him by his never-ending repertoire of jokes and stories. Joseph is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 66 years of marriage, Helen May, his son David Michael Corrigan, and two daughters Vickie Ann Winger and Sherry Jean Conder, 6 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
