Obituary of Athene Pappadeas
Athene C. Pappadeas Fell asleep in the Lord, January 16, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. Athene was born July 30, 1924 to Vasiliki and Constantinos Boussios in Chicago, Illinois.
After her graduation from St. Basil's Academy in New York, she continued on there, teaching students. In 1948, while visiting her brother, Jim in Tucson, she met the love of her life, Constantine "Gus" Pappadeas. They were married September 26, 1948.
Athene was very involved with St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church throughout her life. She was the first choir director and served in that position for 40 years. She was instrumental in starting youth programs. She was the first president of the St. Demetrios Philoptochos Society. Athene was one of the mainstays of St. Demetrios Church.
She graciously opened her home to University of Arizona students from the United States and many countries around the world. Athene is survived by her brother, Peter (Maria) and children, Curt, Angela and Leah; sister, Kiki (Thano) and children, Dino and Valerie; sister-in-law, Sonia Boussias and children, Bonnie and Billy. She is also survived by her loved 27 Godchildren. May her soul Rest in Peace.
