Jesus Acedo

Obituary of Jesus Acedo

Jesus Acedo legendary musician suddenly passed away on March 4, 2013 at his home. Jesus was born in Tucson, AZ on December 24, 1962 to Ramon and Maria Acedo both whom preceded him in death. Jesus was the 7th out of 8 children to include his brother Ramon Acedo whom also preceded him in death, sister Frances(Rudy) Sanchez, brother Joe (Monica) Acedo, brother Javier Acedo, sister Christina Acedo, sister Nellie (Bill) Ohlmaier and sister Irene Acedo. Jesus had many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews whom he loved and cherished and all of whom loved and cherished him. At an early age Jesus’s love for music was apparent and as he grew so did his love for music, which lead him to start a band in 1984 called Black Sun Ensemble. Currently Black Sun Ensemble had reformed last year, after a four year hiatus. With returning bassist Eric Johnson, percussionist Scott Kerr and flautist Joe E Furno, Jesus had had been playing gigs in Tucson, most recently at Solar Culture late last month, and had been working on a new CD "Behind Purple Clouds," to be released on the band's own label SlowBurn Records later this year. Jesus Acedo's skills as a virtuosic guitarist and visionary composer gained him significant critical praise both locally and internationally. Acedo created his own tuning for electric guitar called the "Eye of Horus" which allowed him to create hauntingly dissonant, Arabesque melodies that were absolutely singular in the world of rock music. His scorching lead phrasing and pastoral chordal work were often compared with the likes of John McLaughlin and Jimmy Page, without being anything like those artists. Jesus Acedo was called by one critic "the most important guitarist in psychedelic rock in the last 20 years." He will be sorely missed by his family, band mates, friends and the Tucson music community. Jesus Acedo will be remembered as an amazingly gifted guitarist, and an often troubled individual with a great sense of humor, an optimistic, a kind soul with a big heart, and a genuine born-and-bred Tucsonan. May he walk in light, love, wisdom and beauty.
