Obituary of George Luther Buchanan

George Luther Buchanan                      09/03/28 – 12/18/19

On Dec. 18, 2019 George L. Buchanan, loving father of 3 girls, passed away at the age of 91.  George L. was born on Sept. 3, 1928 to Luther D. Buchanan and Cynthia B. Maloyed.

He served in the U. S. Navy from 1948 as an airplane mechanic and was honorably discharged in 1951.

In 1952 he married his sweetheart, Sharlene McCluskey, and moved back to Virginia to run the family farm.

He was a devoted father to his daughters and shared in all aspects of their lives.

He was a successful automotive and tire businessman, a Mason and a Shriner serving in the Clown Unit.

He loved farming, auto racing, golf and Mustang restoration and shared that with those whom he loved. He was a friend to many and like a father to more than just his girls.  He will be missed by all who experienced his life's endeavors.

He is survived by his daughters Linda Heithaus (Roger), Kathy Chatel (Max), and Roxanne B. Bell (Jim).  He is also survived by his granddaughter, Tasha Peck (Anthony); great grandson Anthony J. Peck, III; niece Karen McCluskey; nephews Roger McCluskey, Jr., and Leslie T. Buchanan, Jr. (Cheryl) in addition to many extended family members and friends.

He was predeceased by his parents, Luther and Cynthia Buchanan; wife, Sharlene; brother, Leslie T. Buchanan; brother in law, Roger McCluskey, and niece, Sharon Galarza.

We wish to thank the Ramsey family for all their love and support.

Additionally, our sincere appreciation goes to all that touched him associated with Casa De La Luz Hospice.

A celebration of his life will be announced.

Donations may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children or a charity of your choice.
