Obituary of Maurice Hall

Maurice Clare Hall passed away peacefully Jan 11, 2020 at Pacifica Senior Living in Tucson, AZ. He was 76 years young, but battled dementia and Alzheimer's over the last decade of his life.

Maurice was born in April of 1943 to parents Clare and Lucile Hall in Swartz Creek, Michigan where he grew up on a farm with his brother William. He went to Mandervile High School in Flint, Michigan and attended college at Ferris State in Big Rapids, Michigan, and there he met his future wife, Colleen.

Maurice was drafted into Vietnam and served in the US Army as an Infantryman from August 1967 to June 1969. His tour in Vietnam would be from February 1968 to February 1969 with Bravo Company, 1st Battalion, 8th Cavalry, 1st Air Cavalry Division, Airmobile. For his courage, heroism, and selfless commitment to others, he was awarded the Army Air Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, the Purple Heart, and the Bronze Star.

After being honorably discharged from the Army, Maurice married Colleen in June of 1969. Colleen would later say Maurice figured if he could survive Vietnam, he could survive life with her. He did, and they had a beautiful life together. She was with him in his final hours, and they will be married 51 years in June 2020.

Maurice loved learning. He achieved two degrees from Ferris State: an Associates in Commercial Art before Vietnam, and a Bachelors in Advertising when he returned. Following his Bachelors, he enrolled in Central Michigan University and completed a Masters in Business Administration. He and Colleen then moved to Tucson in 1973 and would start a successful women's retail clothing store in 1978 that would stay open for 33 years. A stroke in 2007 would later lead to the beginnings of his dementia, and cause them to close the store in 2011.

Maurice loved music, cars, hiking, painting, and skiing. He enjoyed any pursuit where he could use his creative and artistic talents. He was a loving husband, a wonderful father, and a true leader.

He is survived by his brother William, his wife Colleen, his son Zachary and his wife Michelle, and his grandson Robert.
